Abstract: 
Aim of this work was the study of ferulicacid/cyclodextrin (CD) association complexes. Ferulicacid (FA) is a compound well-known as antioxidantand photoprotective agent (approved in Japan as sunscreen).Notwithstanding this, it is poorly suited forcosmetic applications because it undergoes functionaland organoleptic modifications, when it is exposed toair, UV-light and heat. For this reason we prepared aset of FA/CD complexes with the aim to improve itsphysico-chemical stability. The inclusion complexeswere characterized by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and nuclear magneticresonance (1H-NMR). The FA/a-CD complex showedthe most promising properties (high association constant,high degree of photostability, slower FA release)as sunscreen delivery system.
